Preparedness for Expectant Parents

With New York’s storm season upon us, expectant parents may be feeling added stress. Plus we have all heard stories of babies being born on the way to the hospital in taxis or on the LI Expressway. While those births are often portrayed as miraculous, things won’t always go smoothly. Instead of worrying, use knowledge and preparedness to decrease your stress about emergencies. Be prepared:

Expectant mothers should discuss all signs of pre-term labor for their specific pregnancy with their doctors.
Expecting parents should ask their doctors what the office procedure is in the event the office is closed due to inclement weather. Prenatal appointments are important and need to be timely rescheduled.
Family and friends of expectant mothers should know you and your doctor’s plan for a birthing location if your chosen hospital becomes inaccessible.
