COVID-19: What You & Your Family Need to Know

May 6, 2020 chreindev

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted virtually every New Yorker in some capacity. Whether you or someone you love was infected with the virus or your livelihood was affected due to the state-ordered shutdowns, nearly every resident has been under added stress. As one of the epicenters of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States, all eyes are on New York and what it plans to do once businesses begin to reopen. In these trying and uncertain times, we’re here to provide information you and your family should know regarding the pandemic and preparing for the future.

Society’s Top Priority Should Be on Continued Public Safety

Just as 9/11 once changed how we look at travel security protocol, the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to change how we view workplace safety guidelines forever. As businesses begin to think about reopening their doors in a post-pandemic world, their top priority should be on keeping people safe. Not only do they need to devise new public safety measures, but they also need to focus on reassuring the public their establishments are, in fact, safe. This will not happen overnight. It may take several months for society to resemble anything even close to what we’ve taken for granted over the years.

What to Expect as Businesses Begin to Reopen Their Doors

It will be up to federal, state, and local governments to decide which businesses will be among the first and last to reopen, and you should expect this to vary significantly by industry and geographical region. Companies will need to implement the stricter cleaning procedures outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the safety of their customers and employees. These aren’t likely to be temporary measures either, as experts predict the coronavirus outbreaks may return in subsequent waves throughout the year. It will also be necessary for businesses to be transparent about their cleaning policies and procedures, perhaps even going so far as to post notices of safety inspections.

What You and Your Family Should Do to Ensure Your Safety

We must remain vigilant in the months to come. Changes will likely be gradual, as people ease their way back into an everyday routine. It’s likely necessary for all persons to continue wearing protective gear, such as masks and gloves, when going back to work or anywhere else in public. You may encounter COVID-19 screenings at certain places of employment. However, it will still be primarily up to people to monitor themselves and family members carefully for COVID-19 symptoms and seek testing if they suspect something is amiss with their health. This will be especially vital during the upcoming cold and flu season. You should also anticipate continued social distancing measures. Large public gatherings may not happen for a while, and it may be necessary for many to continue working from home and taking advantage of telemedicine technology for virtual doctor visits. However, we’ll get through this.
